Our Perfect Day in Copenhagen

Home-away, Cinnamon Buns and Park Strolls

Staying at Home in Copenhagen

Even for a long weekend, renting one of the many fantastic Airbnbs in Copenhagen is worth it.

While we also recommend charming hotels like the Coco, we’ve always found that exploring the city from our "own" apartment is the most delightful.

If it's too chilly to sit in the garden of the Juno Bakery, it’s simply wonderful to brew coffee in your own little kitchen and enjoy a Juno Vanilla Bun from Danish ceramic dishes (like those from Hay) at a vintage dining table.

Filling the Airbnb fridge with delicious finds from Torvehallerne is a clear advantage of renting a city apartment.

Often, it’s a joy to see the attention to detail the owners put into making their guests feel at home.

One of our favorite apartments is Jette Guldbæk's in Haregade, Østerbro.

Strolling from Breakfast to Dinner

From Jette's Airbnb, it’s a lovely walk to Atelier September or Apotek 57, two of our favorite breakfast spots in Copenhagen.

Strolling through Kongens Have, past the blooming Rose Garden and the Renaissance Rosenborg Castle, you can reach the market halls Torvehallerne and one of our favorite dinner spots, Restaurant Selma, in about twenty minutes.

However, the walk through the park is so beautiful that it would be a shame to rush.

It’s much better to get a pastry and coffee from Andersen & Maillard and enjoy them under the trees of the royal park, with birds singing around you.

Rosenborg Castle

The delicate Rosenborg, which serves as our beautiful picnic backdrop, was originally just a two-story summer house and the favorite residence of Christian IV.

The Rose Garden, from which its fragrance wafts to us, and the park where we sit, once served as orchards and kitchen gardens.

It wasn’t until 1624 that the house was expanded to the stately Rosenborg, serving as a royal residence until 1710. Since 1838, it has been accessible as a museum, where you can admire the Danish crown jewels.

Another favorite park

In romantic Ørstedparken the café Flindt & Ørsted is a true little oasis where we love to spend a few dreamy hours.

On a hot summer afternoon, we also like to head southeast from our apartment in Haregade to the old harbor.

Crossing the Inderhavnsbroen, we usually already have ice cream from Nyhavn 40 in hand, before sitting by the water with a cold Danish beer in front of the Barr, until hunger draws us to the Broens Gadekøkken street food stalls.

Two glasses of beer by the water of nyhavn in Copenhagen. Golden craft beer with a foamy head sits on a wooden post as the sun reflects off the harbor water.

In winter, when part of Gadekøkken turns into an ice scating rink, we seize every opportunity to warm up.

We stroll through the Ferm Living flagship store, whose lights across from Popl Burger, where we have a reservation later, shine so invitingly.

There, we stock up on Scandinavian home accessories, bringing a little piece of Copenhagen back home with us until we can return.
