Hotel Frantz
Enchanting Boutique Hotel in a Historic Building
Hotel Frantz in Södermalm, near the Stockholm locks, exemplifies how to masterfully execute small luxury.
The historical rooms have been lovingly transformed into a charming, sophisticated city hotel.
The large, cozy bed, stylish bathroom, high-quality fabrics, and soft colors align perfectly with our tastes.
And the breakfast, served in the pretty Frantz Restaurant, is among the best we’ve ever encountered in a hotel.
Taylor Frantz and the Seafarer
The beautiful building was owned by master tailor Frantz Bock in 1647, the namesake of the small hotel.
In 1873, it was converted into a Seamen’s Home, providing accommodation and services for sailors.
This era gave it its floor plan of many small, once modest rooms.
Today, the most spacious rooms are just 26 square meters, while the smallest, at barely 8 square meters, feature a charming bunk bed solution but are anything but modest.
The "Petit" room we chose measures approximately 12 square meters.
We are impressed by how much comfort is packed into the limited space and how wonderfully thought-out and functional everything is.
The window seat overlooking the medieval cobblestone street even substitutes for a small balcony.
Admittedly, those with a lot of luggage might prefer one of the larger rooms, but we managed perfectly and followed the suggestion on the charming brass plaque on the floor to store a few items under the cozy bed.
The design reminds us of New York’s Gilded Age, only here everything is immaculately clean and perfectly maintained.
This attention to detail, along with the noticeably warm and attentive service, shows that the hotel is family-run with a lot of heart.
Small, refined, and wonderful are the three words we’d use to describe Hotel Frantz.
